His manuscripts caught the attention of Betsy Mitchell, the former Editor-In-Chief at Del Rey, who praised his storytelling. However, the books didn't fit the traditional mold, and he was ultimately encouraged to pursue other avenues.
Unfazed, Robert decided to go independent, which he describes as embracing the freedom to create without limits. “To me, being indie means being independent,” Robert says. “You do the solo chicken dance. You do it your way. You hope for the best.” This philosophy not only fueled his own success but also inspired him to help other writers find their paths.
Creating a Community for Indie Authors
As a trailblazer in indie publishing, Robert founded several platforms aimed at supporting independent writers, including Read Indies and Go Indie. These platforms offer invaluable resources such as writing tips, publishing advice, and community support to help indie authors navigate the often overwhelming process of bringing their stories to life.
